"Coyote catching mice"

\

We have about 40 acres of fields, and since they are not in production I have to mow them each year to keep the forest from taking over. I use a brush cutter attached to my old John Deere model 920 tractor. Mowing tends to stir up the mice, which in turn attracts predators. This year, on two occasions, a coyote emerged from the woods looking for lunch. He did not pay much attention to me, but he did catch and eat quite a few mice. This shot was taken from aboard the tractor, at a range of maybe 12 feet. If you look closely it appears that the fellow has only one eye.

Nikon D70, Nikon AF Nikkor 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 GII zoom lens at 50mm, ISO 400, f5.6, 1/800 second; adjusted with Apple Aperture 2 and Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.

Approximate print sizes available: 5X7, 8X10.
