The Enchanted Valley

From the beginning of time the Sylvan and Grugach have lived in the woodlands and meadows of The Enchanted Valley. Then came the High Elves and Grey Elves, from the stars they claimed, and made this one of their realms. But they bothered the original inhabitants not, and all lived in peace and harmony for many years. Then, in the year recorded by Men as number 72,001 of their Second Age, the humans of the Empire of Mestom to the South invaded the Valley, pillaging and laying waste to all they passed. They were stopped at the Ubley Peaks, the Northern border of the Valley. There, a vast host of Elves, Men of Saltar, and Wizards of the North fell upon them, and with the aid of powerful magiks, defeated the enemy utterly. Most of the men of Mestom fled south, and that empire has never troubled the Elven lands since. Even now, though, old ruins dot the landscape...all that remain of their ancient fortifications.

It is said that as a result of the powerful magical spells which were used during that great battle, the entire valley fell under an enchantment, and people who travelled into the area, breathed its air, and drank from its springs were forever changed. Few outsiders visit it now. The Valley has become wild and untamed, for it was tainted in some way, both by the ravening hordes of Mestom, and by some of the magiks used by the Wizards to repel them. It never came under the dominion of the High and Grey Elves again, for they no longer desired to lay claim to an area which held such dark memories for them. Now, the Wood Elves and their cousins the Valley Elves and Grugach have it to themselves again.
