The EARTH story - February 4, 1372

When you emerge from Kelar's tent after a quiet night, you find that a light snow is falling out of a leaden sky. Ayazin casts his weather prediction spell, and a look of concern comes over his features. He tells you that this light snowfall will rapidly turn heavy and the winds will increase to gale-force, resulting in blizzard conditions and whiteouts. For the twelve hours that he can predict into the future, he expects that at least 10" of snow will fall...on top of the 38" already on the ground.

Even as he finishes speaking, you notice a breath of wind out of the east, and the snow coming down a little heavier.

"We should stay put, then," says Jo-owrn. "And wait it out."

He pauses.

"We should get rid of the horses, too," he adds, "They're no good in this kind of snow. They haven't made our trip any shorter, and they'll only slow us down, the more snow we have to deal with. Which reminds me, I've got an errand to run."

With that, the ranger heads off into the woods, thigh deep in snow.

Jon puts on white overclothes and starts unpacking supplies from horse into backpack..then tethers the horse and starts to dig a snow cave unless...someone has a better idea.

"Ummm...how about Kelar's tent?" suggests Leslie.

Jon thinks, Ooooh thought it could only be used one per day.

He enters the tent, as do the rest of you.

The storm rapidly builds as predicted. Just as you are starting to worry about Jo-owrn, he staggers into view, carrying an enormous pile of young cut saplings, branches and such. Entering the tent, he settles down in a corner and sets to work on the pile with his knife.
