The EARTH story - July 10, 1372

Four days later, July 10th, you again gather in Laurie's temple. Here is what the identifiers have revealed:

Vardui and Jon are using 1st edition identify, and they discover nothing about the items with this spell (they have to examined within one hour of acquisition). Vardui does look at the two mystery scrolls, though. Beth uses the 2nd edition version and fares better. Tully, not being of either Earth or Oerth (where these items were found) does not have a lot of legendary information about the items.

Aldarin comments, "I believe the potions that you have marked as Flying or Strength, are in actuality, Invulnerability."

Tully says, "I guess we will have to determine some of these by trial and error."

He puts his name on the list for some of the items.

Ayazin says, "I hereby claim the javelin, and the lycanthrope scrolls. That is all I care about."

Drinor shrugs and says, "I suppose I shall claim this rug that no one wants, though I will probably sell it. Tyr compels me to keep my possessions to a minimum."

Tully says, "I have placed a claim on the rug."

Drinor nods at Tully. "I beg your pardon, I withdraw mine."

"Not a problem. If it turns out to be a carpet of flying, it will be something the entire party uses anyway."

Jon looks down the list.

"Vardui and Beth, I think you should both take one of the multiple magic user scrolls. The spells are above me and would be probably be wasted if I tried to use them, but I'm happy to take the others for the benefit of the group as I will probably be freer to use them in battle. I would like to put my hand forward for the ring of invisibility."

Jon looks at the type of rug to see what type of design it has, the size of the rug and if it has any obvious runes. Jon will unroll the rug and sit on it.

He looks quite comfortable on the rug. There is a depiction of a dark haired, rather paunchy, middle-aged man on it. He has long sideburns. He wears a sequined leisure suit. He clutches a cylindrical object, perhaps a foot long, which has a cord or rope running out of the bottom of it, and appears to be talking or singing into it. The rug measures, by the way, 6' X 9' in size.

Jon looks at the cloak to see if it is of Elven make or looks to be made of some other type of material. It seems to be made of silk. It does not appear to be of elven construction. He puts it on to see if he appears displaced.

He does not.

Jon looks to see what colour the cloak is.

It is black.

Jon puts some salt in a glass and wets the edge of the cloak to see if there is any effect.

There is none.

Farad uses his precognosis to see if he can determine who in the party can read the book safely.

Ring of Warmth

He will withraw his claim on the following

rod of cancellation - Laurie
Long Sword - Cursed Berserker
Shield - Cursed Missile Attractor

"Everyone is still making claims...how are we going to split the stuff up? We should get this resolved soon."

"My fellow monk, is, as usual, right," states Mikodin evenly. "Let us see who gets what by the laws of chance, and then proceed from there."

Please wrap things up, as I would like to roll the dice for anything which has more than one suitor in the next summary/move, which I will probably post Wednesday or thereabouts.

Training time...

Brennon, Aron and Jon can train here. The others will have to go afield, unfortunately.

"I need to get to a fighter's guild in a city," announces Devlin.

Ayazin frowns at the depiction of the man on the rug. "An interesting portrait. Is it me, or does he look a little bit... Elvish? And a little Priestly as well."

Aldarin needs to train in Fighter and Mage.

"I need to return to Sandas in order to train," says Equinox.

Ayazin nods. "I need to go to Sandas as well. Farad, would you be so kind as to transport us there?"

Aldarin adds in with a grin, "That's three for the Farad travel service. But I really would like to settle up the treasure and magic item distribution before we do so."

"We can train you here," offers Leslie to Aldarin.

"I agree completely." says Equinox, "I need my treasure in order to pay for my training."

Farad nods. "I'll take any of you whenever you wish. Since training usually takes 2 weeks, I'll check back with you at the Drunken Dwarf then, and again two weeks later if you have not finished by that time."

Mikodin steps forward, and asks, "I, too, need to travel, Farad. I also request to go with the others. But I will need my share of the treasure before I go to pay for my training, I fear. And if it is not too late, I would like to withdraw my claim to the bracers."

Farad looks at those staying here. "Same deal. Meet me here in two weeks for updates every two weeks until we are all done training."

Aldarin replies, "Sounds like a good plan to me."

"Farad, you can have your claim on the plate mail. I was just going to use it if no one else would want it," states Kelar.

"Being as I can read the book I would like to add my name to it," says Kelar.

Turning to Equinox, he says, "You know, we all can use the money you want for yourself. Why don't you claim the magic items you can use. We will then sell the ones no one wants and split the money. That goes for everyone."

Kelar moves over to Laurie.

"Have you ever seen this image before?" asks Kelar as he shows her his medallion. "I know it is magical but have no idea what it does."

"I have not, I am afraid," Laurie replies.

"Farad, if you wouldn't mind taking me I need to pick up some more spell components," says Kelar.

The dice are rolled by a neutral, namely the paladin Lyke the Lawful...

Aron addresses the priests of the party. "By fate, I'm granted four magical items that we have found. But by Tyr's law, I'm only able to have three. Two of them may be protective items - the bracers and the cloak. It would be wrong for me to take both of them, when others could also benefit from one of them. Can your powers tell me which is stronger? I'll gladly relinquish the other item to someone else in the party."

Sharone smiles. "All I can offer is a simple augury. Perhaps this will let me determine if they are for protection or some other use. It will be sometime before Idun will allow me to question her about such matters. "

Somewhat red faced, Aron says, "I appreciate the offer of help, but I must decide soon on which item to keep."

"Mikodin, would you help me by sparring? The first session would be with me wearing the bracers, the second without. Afterwards, let me know which session was easier for you to make contact."

Mikodin smiles, bows, and replies, "I would be most honored to spar with you, Aron. A testing of one's self and one's style against another is always very enlightening."

"Can anyone identify this trident?" Al asks, looking at his new toy.

"Yes, would someone please identify my new sword also?" asks Kithus.

Farad dons the new armor.

"Whenever you are ready, I can go."

Brennon says, "I will accompany you to Sandas as well. I have some personal business to take care of. Besides training that is."

Jon looks to Vardui.

"Vardui can we go with Farad as well and do our training in Sandas? Sharone how many spare rooms do you have in your house?"

"No," replies the elf.

When you are ready, Farad transports Brennon, Tully, Mikodin, Devlin, Equinox, Aldarin and Ayazin to Sandas.

Aron and Jon settle down to train here.

Farad returns after dropping Equinox, Ayazin, Tully and Brennon off in Sandas.

Aldarin says, "Farad, does the armor you were donning before your newly acquired suit, contain any enchantment at all? If so, would you be willing to loan it to a fellow elf until I can obtain a suitable replacement?"

Farad will keep the armor that offers the best protection, and the other set will go back to the pot for Aldarin or Kelar to fight over.

After a brief session of meditation, Aron announces, "I can't keep the scroll of magic protection or the potion."

Aldarin says, "Well, if no one else lays claim to the scroll, I wouldn't mind replacing the one I used against the drow with it."

Sharone looks to Aron. "I was most interested in the scroll but fate decided against me, in your favour."

"Then rightfully the scroll is yours," Aron says as he hands the scroll over to Sharone.

Sharone bows to Aron. "Many thanks for your generosity. Hopefully the day will come when I can return the favour."

Aldarin replies to Leslie, "That would be most helpful, also allowing me to learn the techniques and abilities of my fellow companions also. I assume you are referring to my mage abilities?"

"Both, actually," the ranger replies. "Unless you are specialised in the use of some obscure weapon or other."

Aldarin answers, "No, I have chosen one of the weapons of choice of my people, the long sword. If my training can be done here, then I shall stay here and do so, with much gratitude and thanks."

"Since you all are busy training, and I don't need to" begins Kithus, "I would like to wander around here for a time. Sitting still for two weeks is not fun."

Aron grins, winks at Mikodin, and adds, "Sitting for two weeks in a comfy place like this wouldn't be fun? You should try sitting naked in a snow storm for three weeks while trying to clap your hands with one hand tied behind your back."

"Good idea," says Kithus quite seriously, "It will strengthen both the mind, spirit and body."

"Well, I have not patrolled the area for over a month," says Leslie to Kithus. "We can go on an extended patrol for the next few weeks. Anyone else interested in coming? Op Code?"

"I have some time until I have to train again, so Lady Laurie, I am ready and able to assist you in any way," the cavalier says with a smile.

Jon thanks Leslie and Laurie's for the offer to be able to stay and train in their stronghold.

Jon takes all the newly acquired items to his room being the money, magic items from distribution, laboratory equipment, magic users books and the cursed items of two swords and shield.

Jon then bows to Vardui. "Master I am ready to train...and would you tell me something of your history and adventuring exploits?"

"Great, this should be fun!" says Kithus, rubbing his hands in excitement, "I can't wait to test my new blade in battle! Should there be a need for battle, that is," adds Kithus quickly, so that he would not be seen as a warmonger.

"As I have little to do for a couple of weeks, I'll travel with you Leslie, if you please," offers Sharone.

"Great!" says the ranger.

"Me too," says Jo-owrn.

Training starts the next day, and a party led by Leslie heads off into the wilderness that morning.
