Things in the Earth campaign - F

Forbor: The soul of Forbor is over 1500 years old. He was born a human male in the town that became known as Blackened Tower in the year 79,799 of the Second Age (where 80,000SA = 0 of the Third Age), to a prosperous family of minor nobility. Blackened Tower was the capital of the Wizard's Valley, a land many hundreds of miles northwest of Nlad. The Valley was the major territorial holding of the True Wizards on Earth, and was ruled jointly by Cymcelmil and Elmar, both Arch-Wizards.

When he was old enough, Forbor went into the military and rose rapidly in rank. By the time he was 28 years old he was Lord Forbor, Captain of the Gate and commander of a battalion of Blackened Tower's finest troops. It was in 79,827 that the War of the Stones began. The Triad that was the Rhior Power split into its three components: Good, Neutral and Evil, and the Wizards - the Triad's High Priests, as it were - made war upon each other. Humans were their proxies and footsoldiers.

Forbor found himself in the service of the weakest faction, the Grey Order, who served neutrality. They held Blackened Tower...but only for a short time. With an overwhelming display of magic and massed forces, the Black Order, led by Elmar himself, overran the capital and put virtually all of its defenders and populace to the sword.

Forbor was saved from death, though. Elmar was so impressed with the fighting ability of the young lord that he had his soul imprisoned in a magic sword especially fabricated, and presented as a gift to one of his generals who he secretly thought could be a slightly more agressive warrior.

Forbor fought on...

The War of the Stones dragged on for many years and finally ended in a stalemate. In the meantime, the Old Gods, seeing in the War an opportunity, returned and reestablished themselves after many tens of millenia on the outside. Only the Wizards follow the Triad now.

Forbor's original owner died, and the sword found himself being passed on from one undistinguished owner to another. Some he managed to control to suit his own ends...others controlled him...others got rid of him as soon as they discovered his curse.

Now...after controlling for several years a mountain dwarf from the wild lands that used to be the northern regions of Dwardarf, Forbor found himself in a party of fighters hired by an evil priestess to help defend her temple against an invading party of adventurers. He only saw her once...at the time they entered the temple. For most of the rest of the time they were confined to their barracks...strange...they were never allowed to go on the offensive. Finally, the adventurers came to them, and the dwarf was slain.
