February 18, 1370

February 18th is cold and damp. The temperature is just on freezing when you awaken, and a fine drizzle is falling. A steady wind from the northeast does not make matters any more comfortable, either.

Of those who cared to express an opinion, the majority appeared to favour pressing on, so you cook a breakfast, break camp, and - guided by Valdar and Orlon - begin your trek.

First you must ford a small tributary that branches off of the main flow of the nameless river that you camped beside. It is shallow, but it is still a struggle to get the heavily laden wagon - even with the help of the four draft horses - across. Castle Koozle was built upon the spit of land separating these streams, and you take one last look at the ruin before turning away and heading southwest into the woods.

The terrain here is relatively flat, but heavily forested with a mixture of deciduous and coniferous trees, and quite marshy along this river. Valdar refers to this region as the Coastal Plain. You are following the river as it flows downstream to the sea, along a barely discernable trail. However, the wagon tracks in the snow that the party made two days earlier are readily visible.

You make slow progress all day along the marshy trail. The ground is pretty well frozen, or else the wagon would become hopelessly mired. You encounter nothing all day. The forest is still...but for the wind blowing through the trees.

That night you camp by the river again.
