April 22, 1372

By dawn the blizzard has blown itself out, and the sun breaks through broken clouds. There is perhaps 9" of snow on the ground, though in places it is drifted much deeper.

The pilgrims hurry away at first light, heading west. You depart soon after, eastbound. It is another cold day (12F), and the snowy conditions slow your pace. You do note, however, that as the day passes the Amlad road is curving more and more to the northeast, seemingly aiming at the easternmost of the Galdan Hills, a snow-capped peak some 17,000' high.

That night you camp in the snow at the side of the road. No one disturbs you.
