Historical Notes - G
Gamma Canis Minoris: A former colony of the First Galactic Empire.
Golgar-Amlad War of 1351: In June of 1351 the forces of the
Tower of Golgar invaded Amlad.
Nlad came to the aid of Amlad, but
it was a small force led by Yuri the
Incredible who were pivotal in the defeat of the invaders.
Golgar, City of: Thousands of years ago, the city of Golgar was a major commercial centre in the Empire of Saltar.
It was a great walled city full of merchants, traders, craftsmen,
troops, sages and mages. Guarding it at its northwest corner was the
great black Tower of Golgar, one of
the mighty fortresses that the Saltarians built to protect their realm
with the last of their offworld technology. When the Empire collapsed
some six hundred years ago the city was abandoned and the Tower
deserted. Some of the people fled east and south to what remained of
Saltar; others went east and fell under the rule of dark Imrimil in Nolthen; others went southwest over the mountains to Nlad; while a remnant went west and became the founders of Amlad.
Eventually dark creatures occupied the mouldering ruins of Golgar, and
raided what little trade still moved along the roads that passed before
its great gate. Travellers found other, safer routes to take.
Time passed. Perhaps around 1347 an evil cleric named Olbur
occupied the Tower, and brought the various occupants of the ruined
city under his sway. He made war next, and invaded Amlad. Amlad
requested aid from her ally, Nlad, and while Nlad marshalled its armies
an advance party was sent to raid the enemy in Golgar. This party was
led by Yuri the Incredible (a paladin well
known to all residents of Sandas). This doughty party cleared the
ruined city, entered the tower, and defeated Olbur...who fled for parts
unknown. The armies of Amlad and Nlad mopped up the remaining forces of
the enemy, and Amlad claimed Golgar for its own.
Now, Golgar is the easternmost extremity of Amlad. The
walled city continues to collapse into ruins and the black tower of
Golgar - impervious to everything, it seems - stands empty. A small
thorp named New Golgar has sprung up before the old main gate into the
city. It is not much, consisting of three temples, an inn (called the
Golgar Gate), a small barracks, some businesses and a new, encircling
wall.
Great Dark Age: When
the Rhior Power deserted the First Galactic Empire, it collapsed to but
a small remnant in the core of the Milky Way, and most of its former
colonies either died out or were reduced to primitive isolated
settlements on worlds across the galaxy. This dark age lasted 40,000
years, from approximately 120,000 years past to 80,000 years past. At
about the latter time several of the former colonies had recovered to
the point where they had regained space travel. In addition, the First
Galactic Empire was also recovering.
